PROGRAMMING NOTES
This 9 piece reduction is based on the 1993 Royal National Theatre Production. Currently this version is no longer licensed by MTI as it was pulled a number of years ago but you can always request permission. If you do get permission to do the 9pc orchestration, this is the programming you will need.
Like the larger orchestration, this show is designed to be stick conducted and there is only a single keyboard book which is played from the ALT Piano/Conductor score. Unlike the larger version, in addition to the organ registrations, there are over 150 additional patches, mostly harpischord, celeste, strings of various articulations, brass, and other orchestral instruments. Keep in mind that many of the patch names are absent in the part and we worked with musicians on subsequent professional productions to recreate the actual patches and sounds that were used including the various organ registrations which are not listed.
KeyboardTEK has painstakingly reproduced all of the sounds used in the original production and made it into a playable book available in a single MainStage file. You will need a player who is familiar with organ playing technique for this book. This programming is not doable on a single manual keyboard but can be done on 2 keyboards or a double stack configuration. There are essentially 3 controllers which include the 2 keyboards and the organ pedals although those only appear in 2 songs so you could choose to leave those out. There are organ pedal markings that you would have to figure out how to play if you do not have a set of MIDI organ pedals. This book and programming are not for the faint of heart.
If you do not have a double manual/stack keyboard or organ MIDI controller with MIDI organ pedals, you can opt to just play the upper manual lines on a single keyboard but you will not be able to play the other lines. You can also opt to purchase a MIDI pedal board to connect to your MainStage rig and your current keyboard/organ controller and we have included a link to some of those options from our partner at Sweetwater HERE. Please contact us with any questions regarding our MainStage programming before you place an order if you are unsure of your needs.

SHOW DESCRIPTION
Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony’s, (including Best Musical), for its Broadway premiere. Stephen Sondheim’s and Hugh Wheeler’s (A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures) tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences across the world.
An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!
