PROGRAMMING NOTES

This version is a Symphonic version of the show based on the 1993 Original London West End production and is designed to be done in Concert style. If you are doing a staged version of this same show, you will need to order the programming specific to that orchestration.

This licensed version is orchestrated to be stick conducted at the podium by the MD. There are two keyboards in this orchestration both of which have keyboard patches and programming.

Keyboard 1 contains strings, piano, electric piano, clavinet, organ, celeste, and other orchestral instruments. It is not a particularly challenging book by musical theater standards but does require a proficient player who is familiar with the score.

Keyboard 2 is more orchestral padding to the live players but is primarily strings but also contains piano, celeste, orchestral brass and woodwind sounds, and the famous ALW “Voice Hum” patch found in some of his other shows just to name a few. This book is slightly more difficult to play and navigate than K1.

SHOW DESCRIPTION

In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-screen goddess, Norma Desmond, lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screenwriter, Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors, stumbles into her reclusive domain. Persuaded to work on Norma’s “masterpiece,” a film script that she believes will put her back in front of the cameras, he is seduced by her and her luxurious lifestyle. Joe becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic existence until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free with dramatic consequences.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning masterwork of dreams and desire in the land called Hollywood includes lush, swelling standards “With One Look,” “As If We Never Said Goodbye” and “Perfect Year.”
