PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed orchestration is an amalgamation of several professional productions after Broadway including the US & UK National Tours. The main difference is that these first class productions used click tracks and sweetening tracks while the licensed versions do not utilize them.
This show is orchestrated to be conducted from the Keyboard 1/Piano-Conductor Book. There is also a Keyboard 2 book and both books have programming.
Keyboard 1 is the primary piano book and although there is programming, it just consists of a couple of additional patches. Those are Fender Rhodes as well as a couple of additional acoustic piano sounds such as Honky Tonk piano and Rock piano. This is a fairly straight forward book and since most of the songs are pretty well known, you will need a good player who is familiar with the tunes and can play pop/rock theater grooves while leading the band.
Keyboard 2 has much more programming and adds a lot of padding to the live musicians. Among the sounds in this book are strings, B3 Hammond, mallet percussion, synth elements (pads, leads, polysynths, brass, percussion, choir), harp, french horn, accordion, as well as some triggered SFX and harmonica among others. This book could be played by an advanced level high school student who is comfortable with the programming.
