This licensed orchestration is based upon the Original 1990 Broadway production and not the new orchestration from the Broadway Revival or the most recent US National Tour.

This show is orchestrated to be player-conducted from the Key 1 book. There are 2 keyboards with programming.

Keyboard 1 has approximately 30 unique sounds and patches with over 135 patch changes throughout the show. These sounds include Fender Rhodes, Acoustic pianos layered with various instruments, Harp, Brass, and Percussion. This book does require an advanced player to navigate the score and patch changes while leading the band.

Keyboard 2 has close to 50 unique patches and nearly 250 patch changes so this book will require someone with knowledge and experience in playing heavily programmed shows. Several songs also have  mappings where the keyboardist plays one note and a chord sounds. KeyboardTEK has done all of this for you so your player can concentrate on just playing the notes on the page. The K2 synth patches include various strings, percussion, organs, brass, harp, harpsichord, as well as various EP’s to name a few.

From the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Seussical, Ragtime), comes the Olivier Award-winning Once on This Island. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.

Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, Daniel, with whom she falls in love. Unbeknownst to Ti Moune, the pompous gods who preside over the island make a bet with one another over which is stronger, love or death, the stakes being Ti Moune’s life. When she pursues Daniel, who has returned to his people, Ti Moune is shunned because of her lowly status. Her determination and capacity to love, though, is not enough to win Daniel’s heart, and Ti Moune pays the ultimate price; but the gods turn Ti Moune into a tree that grows so strong and so tall, it breaks the wall that separates the societies and ultimately unites them.
