PROGRAMMING NOTES

This licensed 16 piece version was developed specifically for the secondary license market by MTI in 2014 which is an amalgamation of the Original Broadway Production and 1st National Tour productions.

This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium. It is scored for two piano/keyboards and require exceptional players for both books in the truest sense of the word. Neither of these books is for the faint of heart in terms of playing or navigating the dense programming. It would be very difficult if not nearly impossible to play and conduct this show from either chair.

Keyboard 1 has a little over 40 unique patches with around 150 patch changes. Although this book is primarily piano, the other sounds and instruments include, Barrel Organ, Harpsichord, Toy Piano, Clavinet, Harpsichord, Dulcimer, Strings, Mallet Percussion, and the ever popular Gingerbread Stars patch to name just a few.

Keyboard 2 is heavily programmed and will require someone with lots of experience playing programmed shows. There are also over 75 unique patches and around 200 patch changes in this book alone. We have split the programming into 2 separate files for this book, one for each Act to make it easier on your computer. There are too many sounds to name here but they range from orchestral brass, woodwinds, and strings, to percussion, guitars, bells, harpsichord, dulcimer, organs, along with everyone’s favorite patch, the theramin and “Gingerbread” piano. Both books should be in your musicians hands months in advance to prepare for your production but they are so rewarding to play.

SHOW DESCRIPTION

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”
