PROGRAMMING NOTES

Mamma Mia is KeyboardTEK’s biggest seller and is the industry standard for its keyboard programming for this title.

This licensed version is based on the Original 2001 Broadway Production although it has been adapted for the secondary licensing market by MTI.

The show is orchestrated for a whopping 4 keyboards with the MD/Conductor playing the K1 book and leading the band. All 4 keyboards are programmed and crucial to the sound of the show. This is not the type of show that would convey the same energy without the programming.

Keyboard 1 has the least amount of programming but the sounds are still necessary and iconic nonetheless. There are just over 30 patch changes so most songs will only have just one or two patches each. This is the primary piano book so there are various different acoustic sounding pianos with the proper effects, along with Farfisa Organ, String and Synth Pad layers, as well as some Fender Rhodes and the all important Disco glock. The book can be rhythmically challenging at times so have your MD or best player play this book.

The book has two sequences of the Keyboard 1 programming. One with the optional Click Track and one without. This is available in the same file, so need to download twice, just choose which sequence you will use for your production.

Keyboard 2 has over 40 unique synth sounds and close to 100 patch changes. Although not as technically challenging to play as Keyboard 1, it has some of the most recognizable and iconic synth sounds in this show. An advanced high school player could easily navigate this book. Most of the sounds are Analog in nature and include strings, pads, leads, woodwinds, with some piano, guitar, and organ in there as well.

Keyboard 3 is the most heavily programmed of all 4 books with nearly 70 unique sounds and patches and close to 120 patch changes. You would likely need an advanced player on this book due to the requirements as far as playing the notes and navigating the programming. Like Keyboard 2, the programming is almost all synth based but this book also has some of the triggered Riffs found in songs such as Mamma Mia and SOS. The other great thing about the programming is not just the sounds but all of the effects that give each sound their iconic presence. This includes the proper reverbs, EQ, and delay to mention a few. The sounds in this book range from Pianos and Pads to EP’s and Organs with a fair amount of saxes, strings, guitars, and percussion mixed in.

Keyboard 4 contains about 50 unique patches and close to 100 patch changes. This book is best played by a more advanced and experienced player. The sounds in this book contain everything from strings, guitar, harp, rhodes, synth pads, synth bass, brass, and woodwinds, and also contain some of the iconic arpeggiated riffs in Lay All Your Love On Me . There is truly not a book you can leave out and still convey the same energy of an ABBA song.
