PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed orchestration is an amalgamation of multiple first class regional productions designed for the secondary licensing market.
This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium and has not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 keyboard players. All 4 keyboard books are heavily programmed and will require players that have experience with keyboard programming.
Keyboard 1 is the most technical and difficult of all the books to play. This is the primary piano book in the show but has lots of additional instruments and sounds such as Harp, Celeste, EP’s, Organ, and mallet percussion among others.
Keyboard 2 has a multitude of instruments and sounds throughout the book. There are too many to name but they include Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, Harp (lots of glissandi), Percussion, and Harpsichord to name a few.
Like Keyboard 2, Keyboard 3 continues to augment the rest of the orchestra with lots of brass and woodwind sounds. You will also find Celeste, strings, and mallet percussion.
Keyboard 4 is an optional String Reduction book for those productions that don’t have live strings or that want to augment their string section for a fuller sound. This is a difficult book to play and navigate as there are nearly 500 patch changes because of the amount of string articulations that are orchestrated in the part. It is a gorgeous and fun book to play and will really make your orchestra sound like there are twice as many players.

SHOW DESCRIPTION
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
