PROGRAMMING NOTES
Legally Blonde is one of KeyboardTEK’s most popular shows and biggest sellers. This orchestration is based on the 2009 London West End production and is orchestrated for 3 keyboard players, all of which have heavy programming. Legally Blonde is one of the first if not the first Broadway show to use MainStage as the primary keyboard programming rig.
Both Keyboard 2 and Keyboard 3 have hundreds of patches and patch changes and will require exceptional players with experience playing shows with fast and dense programming. Neither book is for the faint of heart and require players with great rhythmic ability and keyboard skills to play in every key imaginable. Having said that, this is truly one of the most fun and rewarding shows to play in the entire musical theater canon.
Keyboard 1 is orchestrated to be conducted from this chair. This book is the primary piano part and requires an excellent player. Despite being the primary keyboard book, there are additional sounds and patches so familiarity with keyboard programming will be helpful. These sounds include various guitars, organs, EP’s, brass, strings, and lots of synth elements such as pads and leads.
Keyboard 2 also requires an extraordinary player. This book has nearly 300 different patch changes so familiarity with playing using programming and patches is a must. The sounds are too various to name but include brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings, piano, EP’s, harp glissandi for days, harpsichord, guitar, and lot of fun synth elements and many of the “Irish” and other ethnic instruments.
Keyboard 3 is also another heavy lift and would be best played by an advanced player comfortable with MainStage. With over 350 patches in this book alone, the sounds consist primarily of strings using many different articulations but does have several patches where you are playing brass, guitars, percussion, and synth pads.
In addition to the 3 programmed keyboard books, drum and percussion programming is also available on a variety of drum pads. The drum and percussion programming are two separate elements with the pad cues marked in each of the licensed books. Please ensure that your organization or musicians have access to a Roland SPD-SX, , Roland SPD-SX-PRO, Yamaha DTX, or an Alesis Strike Multipad as those are currently the only drum pads for which the programming is available. Please indicate which drum pad you have in the customer notes section when you place your order so we can make sure you receive the correct file.
