PROGRAMMING NOTES
This orchestration is based on the Original 2012 Off-Broadway Production.
This show is orchestrated to be player-conducted from the Piano/Conductor Key 1 book. There are two keyboards in this show both with programming. While the PC is primarily piano, it does have some other sounds and programming.
Keyboard 2 is super simple to play and navigate. It is orchestrated and recommended that the Key 2 player play a real melodica as that is how it is written into the part, but we have included a Melodica patch in the event your player does not have the real thing.
Here are the Orchestration Notes as pulled from the Piano/Conductor Book:
Note on the Orchestrations
While The Other Josh Cohen was performed Off-Broadway with a cast of actor-musicians, it can also be performed with a separate 4- piece band of musicians: keyboard, drums, electric bass and acoustic/electric guitar. The actors can mime any necessary playing of instruments.
The Piano-Conductor part indicates where to use a piano sound, an organ, an electric piano, bells or other synth sounds. However, if you only have an acoustic piano, you can play the same notes and the show will still sound great!
The guitar part indicates where to use an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar or a mandolin. However, if you only have an acoustic guitar, or you only have an electric guitar, the show will still sound great! (Mandolin-only show, we’re not so sure.)
Also included in the orchestration set are books for Violin, Trumpet, Woodwinds, Percussion, and Keyboard 2. They do not play on every song and are not required but add wonderful color.
