PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed orchestration is an amalgamation based on the 2005 Broadway Production and the US Touring Productions.
This show is orchestrated to be player-conducted from the Piano/Conductor Key 3 book. There are an additional 2 keyboard books for a total of 3 keyboard books with various amounts of programming that really give this show the sound of the 50’s and 60’s.
Keyboard 1 contains acoustic piano, claves, electric guitar, and even muted brass. There are many numbers that are TACET where the player is not playing and then there are several numbers where this chair is playing the main piano parts so that the conductor can conduct. Otherwise, this is not a difficult book to play.
Keyboard 2 is also not very technically challenging but has many of the fun sounds of the time including various organs, percussion, acoustic pianos, and electric pianos to name a few.
Because Keyboard 3 is also the P/C book, it has lots of acoustic piano. Your MD will be able to use the included KeyboardTEK piano or they will also have the ability to substitute that with any software piano of their choice as well as have the ability to patch in the hardware piano sound of their keyboard. We provide step by step instructions on how to do this with each order. In addition to piano, other instrument patches in this book include vibes, claves, pipe organ, Farfisa organ, clav, tubular bells, electric bass, and several other percussion and band sounds.
