Licensing Company: Concord Theatricals
In The Heights (13 piece Broadway)
In the vibrant New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights, bodega owner Usnavi and his friends dream, hope and work for a bright future.
This licensed orchestration is based on the Original 2008 Broadway Production.
This show is orchestrated to be piano conducted. There are two keyboards in the orchestration, both with lots of essential programming.
Keyboard 1/Conductor is the primary piano book in this show and will require a very strong rhythmic player who is familiar with the show and who has extensive experience playing with keyboard programming while leading the band. Some of the patches besides acoustic piano include various synth elements (orchestra hits, synth strings, pads, monosynths), EP’s, organs, strings, and the occasional, yet essential sound effect to name a few.
Keyboard 2 is not nearly as difficult to play as Keyboard 1 and an advanced high school student could likely play the part. Keyboard 2 has many of the same sounds and instruments as Keyboard 1 including some piano. In addition, there are lots of EP’s, strings, organs, synthesized elements, Latin percussion, and even some mellotron patches and SFX.
NOTE: The original production made extensive use of pre-recorded click tracks which are often notated in the score. These are not required and are not provided as part of the keyboard programming package. If you are interested in custom made click tracks to use along with certain pre-recorded elements, please contact us to inquire about how we can help you.

In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.
