PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed orchestration is an amalgamation of several first class productions including the Original Broadway production in 1987, the West End production in 1990, and the US National Tour in 2002. This show was slightly revised for the secondary licensing market in 2009. MTI recently updated and cleaned up the orchestration in 2022 so our programming reflects these changes although this is not a new orchestration. If you are using the older version for any reason, please let us know in the customer comments section on the order form.
This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium and has two keyboard players with only the synth book having MainStage programming and patches.
Keyboard 1 requires an extremely proficient and advanced pianist to play who is familiar with the show.
The Synth book (listed as Key 2 in the form below) is not nearly as technical and an advanced high school pianist could easily navigate this book. There are approximately 70 patches in this book which consists of harp, celeste, electric piano, strings, and lots of sound effects to name a few.

SHOW DESCRIPTION
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disaster.
