PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed version is based on the Original 2002 Broadway production.
This show is orchestrated to be player-conducted from the Keyboard 1 book. There are 3 keyboard books in total with all 3 having various amounts of programming and patches.
Key 1 only has a couple of unique instrument patches in the book but otherwise is primarily piano. We have included some other keyboard instruments in the programming to use as you wish and those include Rhodes, Wurlitzer, an electro-acoustic Yamaha CP70 piano, a Hammond B3, and a couple of acoustic grand pianos to choose from. This book has the bulk of the rhythm and groove playing and will require an advanced player who is familiar with the score and who can navigate the part while leading the band. If there is one book where you could leave out the programming, it would be this one.
Keyboard 2 has a fair amount of programming but less than 100 patches altogether. This is the primary string book along with some piano and harp as well as various brass and saxes and is super important to the orchestration. Some of the string passages can be difficult and tricky so someone familiar with the part would be best for this book.
Keyboard 3 has about 100 total patch changes but with many more sounds. The sounds provide orchestral padding to the live musicians and range from percussion, brass, B3 organ, woodwinds, and even accordion. Both Keyboard 2 and Keyboard 3 books will require advanced players who are familiar with jazz chords and voicings. Many of the chords are dense at times and don’t always fall under the fingers as easily as other parts in the score.
KeyboardTEK has meticulously resampled all of the sounds from the original Broadway gear so your keyboardists can sound just like the ones on the Broadway cast album.
