PROGRAMMING NOTES

This licensed orchestration is based on the 2012 US National Tour production with revised charts in 2017.

This show is orchestrated to be conducted for Keyboard 1 and has a total of 2 keyboards in the show, both with programming. KeyboardTEK is proud to offer the original programming as designed by Billy Jay Stein and his team at Strange Cranium. This is the exact programming used in the US touring production on which this orchestration is based.

Keyboard 1/Conductor is the primary piano book but has a lot of specific programming throughout. This will require a proficient player who know the songs and is a good rhythmic groove player. They will need to be able to navigate the part and programming while leading the small band. Besides various acoustic piano patches, the programming for this book includes various “stacks” or combinations of instruments, electric pianos, DX7, and synth pads to name a few.

Keyboard 2 is much more heavily programmed, and like Key 1, the programming and sounds are very specific to these iconic songs. Most of the sounds are synth based and include EP’s, polysynths, monosynths, leads, pads, horns, mallet percussion, brass,  B3 organ, and even the infamous 80’s orchestra hit among others. This book is not technically challenging so an advanced high school student could navigate the part as long as they were comfortable with navigating the heavy programming.
