PROGRAMMING NOTES
This licensed version is based on the Original 2013 Broadway Production.
This show is orchestrated to be conducted from the Keyboard 1 chair. This is a very unique show as far as keyboards and programming go because there are 3 keyboard books all of which have programming, but Keyboard 2 doubles on Acoustic & Electric Guitar and Keyboard 3 doubles on reeds. The keyboard parts are not very difficult as compared to other K2 or K3 books to accommodate for the live players keyboard skills.
Keyboard 1 is the Piano/Conductor Score and is the primary piano book but has a fair amount of synth programming. Some of the patches include Guitar, Synth Bass, and the occasional polysynth sound. This part requires a proficient player who is capable of leading the band while navigating the part and the programming.
As mentioned, Keyboard 2 is the Acoustic/Electric Guitar book. The Table of Contents lists which instrument should be played for that song: Keyboard, Acoustic, or Electric. Because of the small orchestration, many orchestral and synth sounds are found in this book. Those include Synth Bass, Strings, Banjo, Xylophone, and Pipe Organ to name a few. The player on this book will need to be a fairly good keyboard player in order to navigate the part. If you are at a theater or school that has access to the players, you could theoretically split this book up between a keyboard player and a guitar player although there will be songs where either one will not be playing.
Keyboard 3 is a combo Reed/Keyboard book as well. The player for this chair will need to play Bari/Tenor/Soprano Sax, Clarinet, Flute, and Piano. As in the K2 book, the Table of Contents lists which instruments play which song and fortunately there is no switching of instruments in a single song. Some of the keyboard patches include EP’s, Synth Pads, strings, and ironically… flute. However, if your player wanted to add one more live instrument and was capable of playing flute, that could work too.
Note that the live instruments are NOT programmed in the MainStage file. At KeyboardTEK, we program each show exactly how it is in the licensed materials. If you need any customization done to this show or others, please contact us for further information.

When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?
