Fiddler on the Roof (Alternate Orchestration)

Keyboard 2 - String Synth

The award-winning tale of Tevye the Dairyman and his family’s struggles in a changing Russia is a true musical theatre tradition.

This orchestration is based on the 1966 North American National Tour.

The Keyboard 2 book in this version is listed as Optional because it is a string supplement book. If you don’t have a string section or if you have only a handful of live string players, this programming will be essential to fill out the original sound of the score. If you are fortunate enough to have a large orchestra with a full complement of string players, this book and programming will not be necessary for your production.

The Keyboard 2 book is only strings. Although there are no patch indications in the part, KeyboardTEK has meticulously created all the necessary articulations and bowings as they are written so there are quite a few patch changes that the player will have to manage. We use high quality string samples that are very playable and will blend seamlessly with the other live string players and musicians.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof‘s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

The show features a star turn in Tevye, among the most memorable roles in musical theatre. With iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” Fiddler on the Roof is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.
