Licensing Company: MTI
Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical comedy featuring the beloved characters and hit songs from the films!
This show was orchestrated specifically for the secondary licensing market and did not have a Broadway, Off-Broadway, or Regional first class production. Disney, in conjunction with Music Theatre International, developed this show as part of the Disney Channel Onstage collection specifically for schools and community theaters as a one-act musical comedy based on the original film trilogy. It was originally released with performance tracks only but recenty Disney and MTI made the 11 piece orchestration available as an option to be played live. KeyboardTEK worked with Disney Theatricals in creating the keyboard books that are included in the rental materials from MTI. We also worked directly with Disney’s orchestrator to use the original sounds that are on the performance tracks so that they can be used in a live setting by the orchestra. These sounds are not available anywhere else outside of KeyboardTEK.
This show is orchestrated to be player conducted from the Keyboard 2 chair or you may opt to have a stick conductor. MTI provides a Key 2/Conductor score for the player option but also provides a separate K2 book and Full Score if your production opts for a separate K2 player and stick conductor. There are 3 keyboard books in this orchestration and all are very heavily programmed.
Keyboard 1 is the primary piano book and will require a very strong player. In addition to various acoustic pianos, the patches include many synth elements, percussion, strings, brass, celeste, harp, and harpsichord. The synth sounds in this and the other books are very specific although the patch descriptions may not reflect their specificity.
Keyboard 2 comes in 2 varieties. As mentioned, the first is a K2/Conductor score and the other is a K2 only book with none of the lyrics or vocal lines. They both contain the same patches. This books has a lot of auxiliary percussion sounds, orchestral woodwinds and brass, strings, B3 Organ, and many drum loops, one-shot samples, hits, risers, and many synth elements that are very specific and would be next to impossible to replicate. This book is not as difficult or technical as Key 1 but because of the amount of programming, you will need someone who is comfortable with playing a show that has lots of patches.
Keyboard 3 adds additional depth and padding to the orchestration and includes patches that span the orchestral and synth palettes. These sounds include brass, strings, percussion, woodwinds, and the same synth elements as the other books (risers, FX, pads, hits, one shots, samples, whooshes, etc). This is the “easiest” of the books to play but keep in mind there are still hundreds of patches so having a player who is comfortable with all the changes would be very helpful although our programming is designed to be plug and play.
Do not let the complexity and density of the patches scare you away. Disney’s Descendants is an incredible show with gorgeous orchestrations that will bring your production to life using our programming and this is sure to be one of your favorite undertakings.

It is present-day, and in the kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos – the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar – are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. Now entering a completely foreign world and way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?
