PROGRAMMING NOTES
Keyboard Book
This orchestration is based on the Original Broadway production and features a single keyboard book. The programming is light, and the show is designed to be conducted from the keyboard. Players should be comfortable leading the ensemble from the keys while incorporating minimal programming elements.
Playback
This is NOT a backing track product meant to replace live instruments. The KTPlayer playback content includes only the electronic elements, sound effects, and sweeteners from the original Broadway production that cannot be performed acoustically.
KeyboardTEK offers exclusive access to these elements through a unique partnership with the show’s creators. Originally programmed in Ableton Live, the files have been migrated into KTPlayer, our proprietary playback software that combines the power of QLab and Ableton with a much shorter learning curve. KTPlayer is provided free of charge; you only need to license the content itself.
What’s Included in the KTPlayer File:
- All cue-triggered material from the Keyboard/Conductor score, such as:
- Click track (used extensively in the original)
- Whooshes, pulses, swells, school bell
- Community voices (both choral and dialogue)
- Cue-based operation: Each playback element is clearly labeled in a cue list, including where the click starts and stops. You’ll simply mark your score accordingly and press GO. KTPlayer plays the cue and stops automatically, ready for the next.
- Timecode (LTC) is embedded in every cue and can be enabled if needed. (By default, it is muted.) If you choose to use LTC, avoid using KTPlayer’s tempo/pitch shifting functions, which currently affect the LTC audio channel. An update is in development to address this.
Important Note: Some sound effects (e.g., voice processing in “Requiem”) were handled live at Front of House in the original production and are not included in the KTPlayer file. Your sound team should be prepared to reproduce these independently if needed.

All his life, Evan Hansen has felt invisible. But when a tragic event shocks the community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else.
