PROGRAMMING NOTES

This orchestration is based on the Original 1992 Broadway Production.

This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium. There are 2 keyboard books in this show. The Keyboard (Synthesizer) Book is essential because it is the main piano book although there is some programming with a handful of other sounds such as harp, celeste, music box, pitched percussion, and even some sound effects to name a few. This is a difficult book to play and will require an advanced pianist preferably one familiar with many of the Gershwin tunes.

The 2nd keyboard book is a string substitute book. This book can be played with or without live strings in the orchestra. If you do not have any live string players, this book is a must . Even if you have a small number of live orchestral string players, this book will help fill out and augment the sound to help bring that big “Broadway” sound to your orchestra. Feel free to cut this book if you have a large orchestra with plenty of strings on each part. As such, the entire string substitute book consists of tutti/ensemble string patches with various articulations. There are hundreds of patches in the programming for this book due to the sheer number of articulations. KeyboardTEK has helped mitigate the number of patch changes by using Auto Advance on many of the patches. There are player instructions in the programming to alert the player when that will happen. Not only is this part difficult to play in spots, but because of the sheer amount of patches, this book would benefit from a strong player with experience using dense keyboard programming.

SHOW DESCRIPTION

A zany rich-boy-meets-hometown-girl romantic comedy, Crazy For You® tells the story of young New York banker Bobby Child, who is sent to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a rundown theatre. In Deadrock, Bobby falls for spunky Polly Baker, the theatre owner’s daughter. But Polly takes an instant dislike to the city slicker, so Bobby vows – through cunning, razzmatazz, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity – to win Polly’s heart and save the theatre. Memorable Gershwin tunes from the score include “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Embraceable You,” “But Not for Me,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
