Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Everyone’s favorite flying car comes to life in the musical adaptation of the beloved family film.
This licensed version is based on the 2005 UK National Touring Production and closely resembles the 2005 Broadway production. The number of musicians was cut down significantly from the Original London production and the subsequent cast recording as you can see below.
This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium and has 2 keyboard books both of which have extensive programming.
Keyboard 1 has over a hundred unique and individual orchestral instruments and sounds with close to 300 total patch changes. Those patches include strings, harp, woodwinds, brass, music box, electric piano, pipe organ, brass, and everyone’s favorite, “machinery noises” to name a few. This is not a traditional piano heavy book although there are a handful of piano patches throughout. This show is very orchestral and does not utilize the piano in the modern musical theater context.
Keyboard 2 has even more patches and programming than Key 1. This programming continues the orchestral padding that Key 1 provides and in addition includes military saxes, “Elgarian” strings, banjo, the famous toot in “Toot Sweets“, “forceful” strings, and the best patch of all, Chitty’s backfire. Both books will require excellent players who are comfortable with lots of patche changes and keyboard programming.
KeyboardTEK also offers the ORIGINAL SFX used in the show. If you do not have a sound designer or if you would just like to purchase ours, please contact us and we can include that in your license fee.

Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one family-friendly blockbuster that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious.”
An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties, including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.
