Our nation’s most notorious assassins gather on stage to violently pursue a twisted American Dream.
This orchestration is based on the 2004 Broadway Revival Production.
This show was orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium. There are 2 keyboard books, both with extensive programming. KeyboardTEK is proud to offer the original Broadway programming as heard in the revival production and subsequent cast album. Through a partnership with the programmer Randy Cohen and his team at Cohen Keyboards, LLC, this will be the standard programming files that are available for licensing in your production.
Keyboard 1 is the primary keyboard/piano book and will require an advanced player who can navigate the part and the programming. Some of the sounds and patches in this book are dulcimer, Fender Rhodes, strings, celeste, B3 organ, brass, guitar, church bells, D50 synth stack, orchestral percussion, mallet percussion, woodwinds, harmonium, tin whistle, and even a calliope among others.
Keyboard 2 also is densely programmed and could be played by a fairly advanced high school student who is comfortable changing patches while playing. Some of the patches in this book include organs, EP’s, mallet percussion, harpsichord, clavinet, synth pads, bandoneon, strings, horns, squeezebox, and our favorites, “Brass Stabs” and “Paleface”.

A multiple Tony Award-winning theatrical tour-de-force, Assassins combines Sondheim’s signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of our nation’s culture of celebrity and the violent means some will use to obtain it, embodied by America’s four successful and five would-be presidential assassins. Bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny, Assassins is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written.
Assassins lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman, bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.
