The Addams Family
The Addams Family is a musical stage show based on Charles Addams‘ characters from the cartoons rather than the television and film characters.
This licensed version is based on changes that were made after the original 2010 Broadway Production and most resembles the 2011 US National Touring production so several of the songs on the cast album are different than what is included in the licensed material.
This show is orchestrated to be stick conducted from the podium although many productions have had their MD play Keyboard 1 while conducting the band. This is possible but be forewarned that the Keyboard 1 book is very difficult and very busy and has hundreds of patch changes so you will need a very experienced player who can navigate everything required to play, change patches, and conduct. This is not recommended but many people have done this with success.
Keyboard 1 is the primary piano book and a beast of a book at that. It will require a very advanced player to play this book correctly. The programming is extremely dense and includes all sorts of instruments and patches that add character and flavor to the score. Some of these sounds include harpsichord, clavichord, organ, EP’s, mallet percussion, harp, strings, horn, low woodwinds, low brass, synth elements, and even the exotic surdu to name just a very few.
Keyboard 2 also requires a talented player who is extremely comfortable and experienced with densely programmed shows. Patches include strings, harp, guitar, accordion, reeds, low woodwinds, low brass, orchestral percussion, organs, as well as the snaps and other SFX, and even includes udu pots and everyone’s favorite patch, the theramin.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
